Historical background
The first issue of the Geologický sborník (later Geologica Carpathica) was published in 1950 with articles in Slovak by the famous geologists Dimitrij Andrusov, Bohuslav Cambel, Ján Seneš, and Michal Maheľ. The journal Geologica Carpathica, with its 70 year-long tradition, covers a wide spectrum of geological disciplines. Geologica Carpathica is the Official Journal of the Carpathian–Balkan Geological Association and is thus primarily devoted to research articles from the Alpine–Carpathian–Balkan area. However, it has always been open to research articles from other orogenic belts. The reputation of the journal was supported by the long-term work of the editors-in-chief, managing editors and members of the Editorial board.
