PaleoIimnological laboratory allows a lake and dam survey and collection of bottom sediments. Inspection of bottom is conducted by sonar SB-216S to indicate the lake bottom topography and the total thickness of lake sediment in line sections and digital 3D reconstruction of the sediment thickness. Paleolimnological swimming platform allows a sampling of lake sediments and examination of their paleontological record or mechanical, physical and chemical properties in laboratory, especially in fields of Quaternary climate change and environmental research.
Paleolimnological swimming platform:
- Dimensions: 3.6 x 2.8 x 0.76 m
- Weight: approx. 270 kg
- Penetration depth to bottom: up to 23 m
- Water depth: min. 1.5 m, max. 100 m
- Material of platform: aluminum construction
- Floating on the water: 4 double-chamber rubber inflatable tubes
- Fixation on the lake: 4 anchors; each anchor rope has a length equal to twice the depth of water
- Motion of the platform: electric or gasoline engine
- Drilling: using mechanical rollers and hammers
- Core length: 2 m
- Core diameter: 60 mm
- Sediment suitability for drilling: clay to medium-grained sand
